What is mountain Athl honey, and what is the Athl plant?

The Athl plant is an upright, evergreen tree with intertwined, drooping, and dense branches. It typically grows to a height of 8 to 12 meters and may reach up to 18 meters. Its trunk diameter can range from approximately 60 to 80 cm. The Athl tree blooms in June and July, during which time bright, vivid red flowers clearly appear on the trees.

Athl trees grow in warm-climate regions, as they do not tolerate prolonged frost. Their roots spread in moist soils near water sources, rivers, and valleys.

The Athl tree is mentioned in the Holy Qur’an as one of the trees of the gardens that replaced the village of Iram after it was destroyed by the devastating flood. Allah Almighty says: “So they turned away, so We sent upon them the flood of the dam, and We replaced their two gardens with two gardens bearing bitter fruit, Athl trees, and a few lote trees.”
